let me preface with: WOW!
ps. i hate to read.
so theres this book that everyones been talking about...and it sounded intriguing enough. i thought i might give it a shot. and heres to convincing you to read it.
*heaven is for real* by todd burpo.
so todd's 3 year old kid, colton, gets really really sick and they spend an agonizing time in hospitals trying to figure out what they can do to help him. pretty much his appendix ruptured and they didnt catch it for like 5 days. and when they finally do, colton is practically dead. they do surgery. hes alright, but then takes a turn for the worse. todd is a pastor, and he calls his whole congregation together to pray for colton at this point. and overnight the kid is practically healed.
but what comes out of the next weeks, months and years is that somewhere in this surgery colton went to heaven. this 3, 4, 5 year old starts telling his pastor daddy about heaven and about Jesus.
Todd: what did Jesus look like?
Colton: Jesus has markers.
T: What?
C: Markers, daddy. Jesus has markers. and he has brown hair and he has hair on his face. and his eyes... oh dad, his eyes are so pretty.
T: you mean like markers you color with?
C: ya. like colors. he had colors on him.
T: what color are Jesus' markers?
C: red, daddy. jesus has red markers on him.
T: where are Jesus' markers?
Colton holds out his hands and points to his feet... "thats where Jesus' markers are."
T: did you ever see God's throne?
C: oh ya! i saw that a bunch of times. it was big, dad... really really big, because God is the biggest one there it. and he really really loves us, dad. you cant belieeeeeeve how much he loves us!
and did you know Jesus sits right next to God?
T: and who sits on the other side?
C: Oh thats easy dad. thats where the angel gabriel is. He's really nice.
T: where did you sit colton?
C: they brought in a little chair for me. i sat by God the holy spirit. did you know God is three persons?
T: ya, i think i knew that one.
C: i was sitting by God the Holy Spirit because i was praying for you. you needed the holy Spirit, so i prayed for you.
T: what does God the holy spirit look like?
C: hmm, thats kind of a hard one... he's kind of blue.
i wont ruin it for you... but the book is just conversation after conversation todd has with colton... and things he saw or what not keep coming out. you can read an excerpt here. but really, you should buy the book.
two things i cannnnnot get out of my mind.
1) that he was in heaven praying for his daddy... people in heaven pray for us?
2) that the thing that struck this 3 year old was how pretty Jesus' eyes were. and how much he just loves us. todd would always ask colton whenever they would see a picture of Jesus if thats what he looked like... and he would always say, no... until this one. this is by another little girl, Akiane, who has her own crazy story about seeing Jesus when she was little. and when colton saw this picture, he said, "Dad, that one's right."
Jesus is real. Heaven is real. all this... its REAL!!
